Pair of pit bulls attack father, son in Elyria

ELYRIA, OH -- Police said a city man and his 6-year-old son were mauled by a pit bull mix in the 300 block of 8th Street, about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Ryan Davis, 40, of the 300 block of 8th Street, suffered bites on both his arms, stomach and thigh and scratches on his back, according to a report from police Officer William Witt. Cameron Davis, Davis’s son, suffered scratches on his back.

Witt wrote that Davis intervened when the 11-month male pit bull mix and an 11-month-old female pit bull mix chased Cameron with the male scratching the boy. The male dog then attacked Davis.

Davis and Cameron were hospitalized at EMH Medical Center in Elyria. Their conditions were unavailable early Wednesday morning.

Dog owner Wanda Alexander said that the dogs exited her home as her daughter was leaving and began chasing a cat, Witt wrote. Alexander said neither of the dogs have been vaccinated for rabies.

Alexander was provided a cage for the dog that bit Davis and Cameron. It will be placed on a 10-day quarantine before being killed, Witt wrote. Alexander, 38, of the 300 block of 8th St., was charged with keeping a vicious dog at large and warned to get insurance for the other two pit bulls she owns or get rid of them.
