PHILADELPHIA, PA -- A 10-year-old girl has been hospitalized after being attacked by a pit bull in North Philadelphia.
Fox 29's Sean Tobin reported Thursday morning that the girl, who is the daughter of a police officer, has been upgraded after initially being listed in critical condition at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.
The incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 3400 block of Chippendale Street in the city's Mayfair section.

The girl was apparently attempting to cross the street, and one of the neighbors owned the pit bull.
The girl's father – who neighbors said is a Philadelphia police officer – did not want to speak on camera. But he said his 10-year-old daughter has a cut or severe wound from bites on the top of her head.
Tobin was told the owner of the dog, which was apparently a Pit Bull - Labrador mix and rescue pet, took a bone away. That's when the animal pounced on the girl, who had been playing at the house.
The girl apparently had a large amount of skin loss on the back of her head, and witnesses described it as a very bloody scene.
The 10-year-old was reported Thursday to be conscious and talking but in a tremendous amount of pain. She was set to go into surgery sometime Thursday to help with that wound.
Her father said the dog's owner said the dog would be put down Thursday.
