SPRINGFIELD, OH -- The owners of a dog who attacked a woman in a Springfield pet store Friday are stunned at their pet's behavior.
A woman was taking her dog to a pet store for grooming and offered to hold another patron's 85-pound American Bulldog for a moment. The bulldog bit the woman's upper lip, tearing off a piece of her skin, Springfield police said.
The woman was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for her injuries. Paramedics said the woman would need stitches and possible more medical attention.
The dog's owner said it is usually calm.
"It's just not in his character. I am so thoroughly surprised."
The dog was allowed to go home with its owner, who plans to pay for all the victim's medical bills.
