Corpus Christi police officer kills pit bull

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX -— A Corpus Christi police officer shot and killed a pit bull that was charging him and had bitten two other people, including an off-duty Nueces County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Corpus Christi police were called to the 900 block of Brawner Parkway at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The off-duty deputy told police he was bicycling when he was attacked by the dog, which punctured his left thigh.

The police officer found the dog behind a home and while he was walking the dog to the police car, waiting for Animal Control to arrive, the dog broke loose and attacked a 47-year-old woman on her bike.

Then the dog tried to charge the officer, who shot it twice.

The dog died.

The off-duty deputy left the area to take care of his medical needs and the woman was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline.

Animal control issued a citation to the residents of the home where the dog appeared to live, police said.
