Hillsborough woman searching for dog's attacker

TAMPA, FL -- On Sunday, Janet Ellsworth was walking her dog when she says a brown dog attacked her seven year old golden retriever, Gretchen.

"I heard the two dogs running towards us. The brown one hit Gretchen, knocked her over attacking, and all I could do was scream," said Ellsworth.

Several people heard her screams.

Janet says ten people ran to her aid, prying the brown dog off.  Once the dog was off, they raced to a nearby animal hospital.   "At the emergency room, [Gretchen] had surgery that lasted over 3 hours to repair all of her wounds."

Janet and her mom, Blanche Ellsworth, have taken on a mission to find the owner of the dog that attacked Gretchen.

Those good Samaritans described the brown dog as weighing about 50 pounds with clipped ears. "We don't want that dog to attack little children or small dogs," said Blanche.

Those same good Samaritans say a woman with blond hair and a thin build took off in a white truck with the attacker. "I can not imagine how the woman could not take responsibility for her dogs." said Blanche.

Janet also thanked all who helped. Especially a medic, who helped on the scene and even went with them to the vet. "Thank God he put him there because without him she wouldn't have survived," said Ellsworth.

If anyone has any information about the brown dog or it's owner, contact Hillsborough County Animal Services at 813-744-5660.
