Owner charged in pit bull attack on Tipton County deputy

TN -- Tipton County Sheriff’s Office detectives have charged the owner of a pit bull that attacked a deputy Wednesday in Drummonds.

Deputy Clay Honeycutt was investigating a narcotics complaint at Wilkinsville Trailer Park in Drummonds when a brown and white pit bull owned by area resident Linda Sage charged at him, a sheriff’s office spokesman said.

Sage was charged in the attack today and cited for having a dog running at large causing bodily injury, the sheriff’s office said. Sage is scheduled to appear in Tipton County General Sessions Court on Aug. 16.

Honeycutt received injuries to his elbow, arm, calf and hand where the dog bit him as he struggled to fight it off, authorities said. He eventually fired a shot from his pistol, which wounded the dog.

Tipton County Animal Control workers arrived at the scene and Sage helped them control the pit bull until it could be captured.

Chief Deputy Billy Daugherty said Honeycutt, a member of the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office for seven years, was released from The Regional Medical Center at Memphis early Thursday after being treated for his injuries.
