NEW YORK -- A Long Island woman is hospitalized with severe lacerations to her body after a pack of pit bulls attacked her.
It happened Thursday afternoon at her home in North Merrick.
Police say the woman was in her backyard and got into a loud argument with a Bellmore woman who had brought the dogs to her home. The argument was apparently started over the fact that the dogs were at the home.
Police say the 34-year-old woman was attacked by three of the five dogs. The woman who had the pit bulls tried to pull the dogs off of the victim and was also injured when one of them bit her elbow.
A Nassau County Police Ambulance rushed the first victim, who sustained severe lacerations to her arms, legs, face and back of the head to the hospital. She is listed in stable condition. The dog owner also went to the hospital for treatment. She was later released.
Emergency Service Police Officers were able to contain three of the dogs in the house. Two of the dogs that ran from the home were located a short time later. One had returned home and the second was found by Emergency Service Police Officers.
Hempstead Animal Control officers came to the scene and took the dogs away. Summonses have been issued to the dog owner.
