NEW YORK -- A 2-year-old boy suffered serious facial injuries Wednesday afternoon when he was bitten by an American bulldog at the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce’s Watertown Farm and Craft Market on Washington Street.
City police Lt. Frank J. Derrigo said the child, whom he declined to name, suffered “extensive” injuries and initially was taken to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment, then transferred to a Syracuse hospital, where he underwent plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Lt. Derrigo said the boy was part of a group of children playing with the leashed dog owned by Melissa M. Felix, 279 N. California Ave.
The youths stopped playing at a point and the dog lay down until the boy approached it either from the rear or the side and was attacked.
The lieutenant said witnesses said the attack was unprovoked.
Lt. Derrigo said the dog was up to date on all of its shots and is under quarantine for 10 days. No charges are expected.
