Officials Need Help Locating Dog that Bit Child

OREGON -- Douglas County Animal Control is looking for a dog that bit a little girl's face outside a grocery store.

The store's owner, Ron Peterson, says a transient tied his pit bull outside when a 6 year-old girl tried to pet it and it bit her in the face several times.

Peterson says he tries to police his own store to make sure it's safe but can't always do it on his own.

"It's really hard to control you know. Anyone that I think I know has a vicious dog, and I will ask them to leave it at home or somewhere else before they come," says Peterson.

Animal control says it wants to find the dog to make sure it's not carrying any diseases it could have passed to the little girl it bit.

Anyone with information about the dog or owner are asked to call DCAC at (541) 440-4471 or the Douglas County Environmental Health Division at (541) 440-3569.
