[UPDATE TO THIS STORY: Two months after this story was aired, the same owner, Teresa Reeves, called police with a story about how an invading pit bull had attacked them. This time, though, police were skeptical and concluded that the owners had been attacked by their own dogs - despite their denials.]
INDIANA -- One pit bull attacks another and the owner is caught in-between.
It happened in St. Joseph County on the west side on Wednesday afternoon.
Homeowner Teresa Reeves says she heard barking outside her storm door.
She saw an emaciated pit bull eating cat food left outside for the strays that come and go around the neighborhood.
The dog started barking at her pit bull inside the house.
The stray dog then jumped into her house by breaking through the glass on her storm door.
The two dogs fought inside her kitchen for at least twenty minutes. Reeves broke up the fight but not without a few bites, including one all the way to the bone. She now needs surgery.
“You should see my dog, his face was half dead,” says Teresa Reeves. “His eye is nothing its red skin and the other they had to stitch up.”
Reeves was taken to the hospital in an ambulance but the orthopedic surgeon she needed to see was already in surgery.
Their dog will likely have one eye removed and be in pain for a while.
