Pit Bull Kills Youngstown Woman's Dog

OHIO -- The lifeless body of Karen Jones' 12-year old terrier named Good Buddy still lies in her backyard after she claims the dog was attacked by her neighbor's pit bull late Saturday night.

Jones had just got home from work when the incident happened.

"There was a dog in my backyard, and basically I saw the dog's face and he did not look nice," Jones said. "He looked very vicious."

She said the dog looked as if it was going to attack her, so Good Buddy ran toward the pit bull to protect her. And Jones ran in the house for help.

"You could actually hear the dogs out here fighting, with growling and everything," Jones said. "By the time we got back outside, it was too late."

Good Buddy was dead. Jones and her father said the pit bull got through a fence that night, and was able to get in their backyard. The family said they miss their dog, which was a stray they took in 12 years ago.

"I miss him like I don't know what," said Jones' father, James Rogers. "I almost cried. I'm gonna be honest with you. It hurts my feelings to even talk about him. I tell you the truth, I don't even want to talk about him."

"When your dog greets you, that is like one of the most wonderful, one of the best parts of coming home from work," Jones said.

The family said they want restitution for their dog. Right now, the Mahoning County Dog Warden is investigating the case to see what actions to take next against the pit bull owner.

"What will happen is as long as the people have the dog contained, and it's back in the home, we will start our investigation and get our evidence and take it down to the prosecutor and see what charges he wants to go with," said Dave Nelson, field supervisor of the Mahoning County Dog Warden's Office.
