Pit bull shot by officer in Rock Hill

SOUTH CAROLINA -- An officer who thought he caught two men trying to break into a Rock Hill car lot had to shoot a dog that caused the men to scale the fence.

While investigating another call Friday night, a Rock Hill police officer heard two men climbing the fence at Pat’s Used Cars on Flint Street Extension, according to an incident report.

The officer grabbed his Taser and approached the men. They shouted to him about a pit bull that chased them to the fence.

The officer spotted the dog, and traded his Taser for a gun. The dog paced several times, growled and approached the officer, so he shot the dog in the leg.

The men said they were walking from McDonald’s toward Porter Road when the pit bull ran at them. Neither was reported injured.

The dog ran off, but it was later located and taken by York County Animal Control to the shelter.
