MASSACHUSETTS -- A little girl was recovering Wednesday after an alarming attack by a pit bull.
The two-year-old was out with her mother when the dog lunged at her. Wednesday, police said they were getting closer to tracking down the owner of the dog. At the same time, police released a mother’s dramatic calls for help as her little girl was being dragged by the dog.
The girl’s mother returned from the hospital Tuesday night with her daughter who suffered four puncture wounds to her stomach. She says the attack was horrifying to see.
“He had her in his mouth,” she said. “Yes, he did. Dragging her on the ground.”
Jessica says they were on the front porch. She ran inside for a quick second when the dog struck.
“She was screaming. Crying and stuff. I calmed her down finally. By the time the firefighters came, she was more calm. She was just like traumatized,” Jessica said.
Police said two teenagers were walking the dog on the sidewalk on Grove Street. They took off when the dog broke free and went after the little girl.
“They fled, so they didn't stay to give their name or the status of the dog,” Captain Keith Houghton said. “The dog had no identifying tags or anything. So by law, we quarantine it.”
The dog will be quarantined for ten days. Meanwhile, Jessica is thankful her daughter will be okay, but is still angry at the owner.
Investigators say that the dog's owner could face leash law violations, failure to register the dog and other charges as well.
As for the little girl, doctors say she is expected to make a full recovery despite the frightening ordeal.
