Tuscaloosa police officer kills attacking dog

ALABAMA -- A police officer shot and killed a dog that attacked him as he responded to a dog-bit call Thursday afternoon.

Police and animal control officers arrived at the 2400 block of Beacon Hill Parkway at 12:25 p.m. following a report by a 56-year-old woman that a dog bit her on the arms.

According to a Tuscaloosa Police Department report, the dog, a Malamute, attacked an officer and bit him on the arm. The officer then shot and killed the dog. It was determined that the dog had broken loose from a chain.

The TPD stated in a news release that the shooting was an act of self-defense.

The victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center by ambulance and the officer was treated for injuries at Emergi-care.
