Two Women Arrested after Pit Bull Mauls Child

FLORIDA -- The women who were babysitting the child who was attacked by a dog have changed their story, and have been taken to jail.

The dog attacked the 13-year-old boy at a home on Robson Court Monday. The teen required surgery for injuries to his head, chest and arms, according to a statement from Columbia County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Edward Seifert.

At the time, witnesses reported that an unknown dog, possible a white boxer, had come into the yard, attacked the child, and left. A search Monday turned up no such dog.

A deputy following up Tuesday learned that the dog wasn't a stray, but was actually the pit bull belonging to the woman  babysitting the child.

Debra Crisp is the mother of the child's father's girlfriend; she lives across the street from the child, according to Seifert.

The child was at her home, along with Crisp's mother.

The deputy learned that the dog attacked the boy in the home's kitchen, and that Crisp and her mother then moved the boy to the porch, then Crisp took him to the local hospital, from which he was airlifted to Gainesville for surgery.

Crisp, 50, said she originally lied about what happened, Seifert indicated, because she was afraid of getting in trouble since she was babysitting at the time.

Crisp's mother, 69-year-old Josephine Robson, said she lied to the deputy to protect her daughter.

Both women have been arrested on charges of making false and misleading statements during a felony investigation, making false official statements, and tampering with evidence.

They were both booked on $7,000 bond and are both listed as being in jail this morning.
