Daytona Beach man arrested for selling meth, a week after police shot his dogs

James David Estep

FLORIDA -- A Daytona Beach man was arrested after a five-month investigation revealed he was dealing in methamphetamine, Daytona Beach police said this morning.

James David Estep, 49, was charged with sale and delivery of methamphetamine, an arrest report shows.

Last week, police shot and killed Estep's two pit bulls when the animals attacked a police dog named Blaze in Estep's backyard at 340 Taylor Ave. The K-9 handler and his dog were tracking suspects who ran from a stolen vehicle crash and wandered into Estep's backyard after noticing a gate was newly pushed down, police said.

Estep was not the suspect police were looking for.

In April, investigators gave a confidential source $40 dollars to go buy drugs from Estep. An audio/video electronic device was fitted on the informant to record the transaction at Estep's Taylor Avenue home, police said.

The drugs the confidential source brought back to police tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.
