PETA offers reward for information on kidnapped Woodland dog

WASHINGTON -- The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the safe return of a bulldog reportedly stolen from a Woodland woman and held for ransom.

Jennifer Thomas of Woodland told Cowlitz County sheriff's deputies that Jagger, her English Bulldog, disappeared Oct. 4. Thomas said she started getting text messages a few days later telling her she wouldn't see the dog again unless she handed over cash and prescription drugs, sheriff's investigators said.

The case has drawn attention from the public and press across the U.S. and in Europe.

"We implore the public to come forward with any tips regarding the whereabouts of this animal," PETA director Martin Mersereau said in a written statement Thursday.

The animal rights group said it discourages people from leaving pets outside unattended.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the case to contact Deputy Laura Thurman or Chief Deputy Corey Huffine at 360-577-3092. Tips can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 360-577-1206.
