CALIFORNIA -- A 70-year-old Simi Valley man was bitten Friday by an unleashed pit bull terrier while walking his own dog, police said.
The man was walking his Shih Tzu on a leash near Los Angeles Avenue and Barnes Street in Simi about 8:15 a.m. when an unleashed pit bull suddenly attacked his dog, police said. His dog had multiple bite wounds to its throat and shoulder.
The man tried to intervene and was bitten on both hands. He then stabbed the pit bull numerous times with a folding knife he was carrying until it stopped, police said.
The man declined medical attention, and both dogs were expected to survive, police said. The owner of the pit bull was found, and Ventura County Animal Control officials were investigating the incident, police said.
