NEVADA -- A teacher is recovering after being attacked by a pit bull in front of her elementary school on Thursday afternoon.
The attack happened in front of Miller Elementary, a school for children with special needs, just after classes were dismissed for the day and students were boarding buses.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Animal control officers captured the animal and took it to a local animal shelter. The whereabouts of the dog's owner was unclear.
Neighbors in the area say they've had a big problem with dogs running loose, posing a danger to residents and children at the school.
On Friday, an Action News crew caught a man riding his bike with a large German Shepherd off-leash through the school's parking lot.
A neighbor says he was chased by a couple of pit bulls earlier this week.
"I was lucky that I was able to get off my bike and turn it around," Lawrence Wilson said. "I had no time to just turn around. The dogs were coming at me, a couple, three, at great speed."
The City of Las Vegas would not comment on this case, other than to confirm the teacher's injuries were not life-threatening.
