AUSTRALIA -- A toddler attacked by her family’s pet dog in Werribee last week has been discharged from hospital.
The dog, an alaskan malamute, has been put down.
Ambulance Victoria paramedic Michael Garland said the girl, aged 16 months, suffered a 5cm long laceration to the top of her head and a smaller one under her eye but “it could have been a lot worse”.
He said the girl had not been left alone with the dog.
Her mother was with her when the attack happened and used face washers to stem the bleeding until help arrived.
The girl was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital after the attack last Thursday just before 5.30pm.
She was discharged the next day.
Wyndham Council chief executive Kerry Thompson said council officers went to the house in Coventry Drive soon after the attack.
She said the dog was surrendered to the council by its owners and had been put down.
