Woman in fair condition after being mauled by pit bull

OHIO -- A woman is in fair condition after being mauled Tuesday morning by a pit bull in Harrison Twp.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Maj. Dave Hale said two pit bulls — one black, the other grey — were running loose in the 2400 block of Wheeler Avenue when a neighbor came out and got in her car. The black pit grabbed the woman by her left arm, pulled her from the car and began to maul her.

Hale said when deputies arrived around 9:45 a.m. they were able to get the dog away from the 55-year-old victim. They then shot the dog.

The grey pit ran at the first gunshot back to its owner’s house, where the owner confined it.

The victim was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where she is in fair condition with bites and severe lacerations, Hale said. Deputies did not take custody of the grey pit because it was not part of the attack and was confined by its owners, Hale said
