The dog reportedly broke loose from its owner’s backyard, ran up the street and attacked the child, police spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said.
The boy’s father, Chris Binshaw pulled a knife and stabbed the dog to get it off his son. The dog’s owner, Eric Robinson, then grabbed the dog and put it back in its cage. He says the dog has never shown aggression and believes it was looking for a second pit, kept with it.
The child suffered non-life threatening injuries but his current condition is unknown. Charges are pending further investigation, Weary said.
