Jennifer Rebekah Switzer, 21, and Anthony Lamar Lugar, 22, both of 1009 Branch Drive, were charged last week in separate indictments with allowing a dog to run at large causing serious bodily injury. They were among about 150 defendants who had a court date with Circuit Judge Ben W. Hooper II on Monday.
After formally notifying the defendants of the charge against them, Judge Hooper appointed attorneys to represent them. Switzer will be represented by the district public defender's office and Newport attorney Jessica Sisk was named to represent Lugar.
Because of his familiarity with the family of the alleged victim in the case, Judge Hooper stepped down from hearing further proceedings in the case. The charges will now be heard by Circuit Judge Rex Henry Ogle.
