One Year Ago Today: Cason Bryant, 5, laid to rest

GEORGIA -- Several hundred relatives and friends said goodbye to their little angel, 5-year-old Cason Bryant, the kindergarten student who was killed Monday after being attacked by a pack of dogs.

The Philadelphia Baptist church student loved to spend time with his sister, Madison, playing video games, t-ball, and water sports.

The boy's parents, Ray and Jennifer Bryant were too distraught to speak, but relayed this message.

"On behalf of Cason Bryant's family, they just want everyone to know that they appreciate the outpouring of love, support and the continued prayers for this special young man," said Charles Shaw, Funeral Director at Vance Memorial Chapel.

Meantime, Lieutenant Heath Taylor for the Russell County Sheriff's Office said a total of 12 dogs have been euthanized – including a dog belonging to the Bryants and several others belonging to a neighbor.

Autopsies reveal five of them were actually involved in the attack, which investigators say began when the boy's dog got into a fight with the neighbor's dogs and somehow Cason ended up in the middle.

The case will head to a grand jury. At this point, no charges have been filed.
