Ozzie was the longtime mascot at Stanley Park until four teenagers killed the duck on Friday.
They got away but perhaps not for long. Westfield Police Sgt. Paul Beebe told 22News, detectives interviewed the jogger who saw it all.
Beebe said the young woman was so infuriated she tried in vain to save the duck from a teenager holding Ozzie.
On Saturday, visitors to the pond where Ozzie was killed told 22News they're outraged. Holly Tefts of Westfield always enjoyed feeding Ozzie.
“I think it's terrible. I hope the people that did it really get punished, it's really, really bad. It's just awful,” said Holly Tefts of Westfield.
“The world is full of all kinds of people and it's too bad that an incident had to hit so close to home, it's just sad,” said Wendy McCaul of Huntington.
Other people have shown their sense of outrage by going to their checkbooks. Stanley Park Director Bob McKean told 22News, there's now a reward for the arrests of those teenagers.
“We've had some e-mails and calls from people who are very upset about this obvious cruelty to animals,” said Bob McKean, the Managing Director of Stanley Park.
Anyone convicted of felony animal cruelty here in Massachusetts could face a maximum prison sentence of five years.
