Woman, 71, Attacked By Pit Bulls

TEXAS -- A 71-year-old Houston woman was mauled by two pit bulls.

Edna Dyson suffered serious injuries and remained in ICU Friday after undergoing surgery.

Dyson had gone to a rental property she owns on Swiss Lane in South Houston to tend to the yard on Wednesday. Investigators said the neighbor's dogs slipped through a hole in the fence and attacked Dyson.

She crawled to her car, climbed inside and waited for help. Investigators said she lost consciousness and was in the car for at least two hours before a neighbor found her and called 911.

"She fought very hard, she fought for her life, made it to the car, closed the door and waited for help," said Valarie Davis, one of Dyson's friends.

She said Dyson is known for her amazing singing voice and everyone is praying she'll pull through.
"When you meet her you just have to love her. She's one of those people," Davis said.

Animal investigators say the saddest thing about this incident is that it didn't have to happen. They want to remind dog owners of the importance of keeping their pets secured at all times.

"They need to really make certain that your dogs are restricted to your property," said Chris Newport, a spokesman for BARC. "In this case there was a fence, but it wasn't secured at the bottom. This is awful and could have been prevented."
