UNITED KINGDOM -- A woman who claims she was bitten by a dog as she delivered leaflets says the incident could have been worse if a child had been involved.
Helen Kirby was leafleting on Kelway Road, Wellington, for her skin clinic when she entered a garden and a dog ran out of a house and bit her leg.
The 23-year-old said she was left shocked and feared a child could have been badly hurt if it had happened to them.
She said: “There was no gate and no sign that there was a dog so it could have been anyone knocking on the door. It just charged out at me. It was a huge German Shepherd – if it had been a child it would have knocked it to the floor.”
A police spokesman confirmed a woman had reported being bitten by a dog on Sunday evening and said: “The woman had bite marks on her right leg and the owner of the dog has also been in contact with the police.”
Miss Kirby, who lives in Wellington, said that even though she would not want the dog to be taken from its owners, she is worried it could attack another person. She added: “It is a dangerous dog and I do not want any children to be put at any risk.
“I think that it is ridiculous that a dog is allowed to bite once and get away with it - if I had a child who was bitten and I then found out the dog had bitten someone before then I would be annoyed.”
The investigation is continuing.
