SOUTH DAKOTA -- A nine year-old boy was rushed into surgery Thursday night after being attacked by a Rottweiler.
Sgt. Preston Evans with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office tells us the boy was dropped off at his father's house which is near the intersection of 250th Street and 475th Avenue outside Baltic.
Evans says after the boy went into the house, he and the dog were unsupervised for about ten minutes. During that time, the dog bit the boy several times.
When someone arrived at the house and found the boy --they tried to drive him to the hospital. A deputy with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department stopped the speeding vehicle. That deputy is also an EMT and attended to the boy until an ambulance arrived.
We do not yet know the extent of the boy's injuries -- but he was rushed into surgery.
The dog has been taken into custody by the Humane Society.
The incident remains under investigation.
