Moses Lake couple want animal control laws changed after pit bull attacks, kills dog

WASHINGTON -- A Moses Lake couple feels the city’s current animal control laws don’t do enough to keep people and their pets safe from dangerous dogs.  The couple is coming forward Tuesday after they say a pitbull attacked and killed their dog.

Jane and Larry Cybulski say they will speak before city council Tuesday night because they want the public to have more protection from any kind of dog.

Jane Cybulski says she was walking her two Pomeranian dogs in her neighborhood and collecting cans last week.  She says she knocked on a door on South Grand to ask the homeowner for permission to pick up their cans.  She says the moment she opened the door, a pit bull lunged at her and knocked her to the ground.  She says she tried to protect her pets, but the pitb ull grabbed one of her dogs by the neck and eventually killed it.

Moses Lake Police say a person at the home told responding officers the dog was not there.  But authorities say they surrendered the pit bull the following day.

After the experience, Cybulski and her husband say they feel the city’s animal control laws should require dog owners of any breed to keep their pets away from the public when at the door.

The local paper printed a brief ad from police reporting the attack.

The Cybulski say they printed a more detailed report, and they say they want the city to do the same.  They are asking others with prior experience with the pit bull to call them so they can build a case with animal control.

The couple says they feel the city should permanently take away a dog from any owner who attempts to hide their pet after it attacks.
