TENNESSEE -- A Monroe County woman attacked by a pack of dogs says she's lucky to be alive.
The attack happened while she was putting up Christmas decorations outside her Sweetwater home Saturday afternoon. Sharon Easter was rushed to the UT Medical Center and now has stitches all over her arms and legs.
"There were three of them. They kept coming at me, biting me and clawing me," described Easter.
She says she has no idea how long the attack went on.
"I was fanning a sock at them. It's all I had. I was screaming for someone to help me," Easter said.
Luckily, some men driving by heard her screams, chased the animals away, and called authorities.
The investigating officer says the dogs escaped from a home just down the road from Easter. He says a giant tree came down on the fence in that yard about three months ago, and that's how the animals escaped.
[Three months ago?! You're saying it took the dogs three months to realize the fence was down or that for three months the owners have let the dogs run loose off their property?]
The dog's owners William and Jessica Jones have received a citation.
"They've never attacked anyone, we've had them for six years now," said William Jones.
But records show the dogs also tried to attack another neighbor just this month. Animal Control has taken the pets away. Easter says she holds no grudges. Although, she does feel the dogs need to be put down so this won't happen to anyone else.
As soon as she feels better, she plans to finish up her decorating.
"The tree is already up. Thank goodness that's done," she said.
Easter says an attack by a pack of dogs won't be ruining her Christmas.
