Dog Attacks 6-Year-Old and 18-Year-Old; Taken by Warden

WEST VIRGINIA -- Dogs were taken from a Huntington apartment Monday evening after a 6-year-old boy and an 18-year-old woman were bitten.

It happened about 5 p.m. at an apartment along 21st Street and Eighth Avenue. Officers say the 18-year-old woman was bitten on the thigh, while the 6-year-old boy suffered bites on the face and ears.

Both were taken to the hospital.

The dog is a Rottweiler-lab mix. It, along with two other dogs, were removed from the home by the dog warden.

Officers say the dog that bit had also bitten twice before. Neighbor Nathanial Gue was a victim.

"The dog needs to be taken to the pound and put down," Gue told WSAZ.com. "You can't have an aggressive dog, especially in a neighborhood with a bunch of kids."

Huntington Police Officer Daniel Wiles said dog owners must practice common sense.

"If he (the owner) thinks the dog is going be like this, he needs to have it restrained in a cage or not have that type of dog," Wiles said.

Charges have not been filed against the dogs' owners at this time. The case has been turned over to Huntington Police detectives.
