CALIFORNIA --A dog is scheduled to be euthanized after it bit the face of a 4-year-old girl last week, according to Contra Costa Animal Services.
The child was visiting a home Jan. 6 in San Ramon when it spotted a 5-year-old brown male pit bull tied in a front yard in the neighborhood, said Lt. Joe DeCosta. She started petting the animal when, without provocation, it bit her in the face, injuring her cheek and nose.
She was taken to the hospital where she underwent reconstructive surgery and is expected to recover.
The dog's owners surrendered him to Animal Services, where after a 10-day quarantine and observation period to rule out rabies risks, it will be euthanized, DeCosta said. The incident remains under investigation.
