Pit bull "charged" Lansing police officer, "was foaming at the mouth"

MICHIGAN -- Police say they had to shoot and kill a pit bull Saturday and two other pit bulls were tranquilized, after the dogs ran loose in south Lansing and one bit a child.

A 6-year-old child was bit in the arm by one of the dogs. The child was treated by paramedics, police said.

At about 2:35 p.m. Saturday, police responded to reports that the dogs were running free and the child was bit in the 1600 block of Lyons Avenue.

Lansing police officers and Ingham County Animal Control deputies cornered them in the 800 block of Pacific Avenue, several blocks away, said Lansing police Sgt. Joe Brown

“One charged an officer and was foaming at the mouth, so the officer had to shoot it,” Brown said.

The other two dogs were turned over to Animal Control, he said.
