Police dog bitten by pit bull, owner ticketed

ILLINOIS -- The owner of a pit bull was ticketed Sunday after her dog bit a Chicago Police dog multiple times Friday afternoon in the South Loop, police said.

A police officer was exercising his leashed canine partner "VVorra”  about 4:10 p.m. Friday in the 1400 block of South Clark Street when two pit unleashed pit pulls charged at his dog, according to a police report.

One of the attacking dogs began to bite "VVorra” on the nose and muzzle and then started gnawing on the dog’s right rear thigh, the report said.

The officer broke them up but saw his dog was losing “substantial amounts of blood from her nose,’’ and rushed her to an emergency treatment center in the 2200 block of West Harrison Street, the report said.

The officer came back to the scene Sunday and issued the owner of the biting dog, 27-year-old Latina Griffin, of the 2100 block of South Ashland Avenue, a citation for failure to restrain an animal and a second for failing to exercise her responsibilities as animal owner, police said.
