ILLINOIS -- A three-year-old boy from Virden was taken to St. John's Hospital in Springfield after he was attacked by a dog at a Montgomery County residence in Bois D'Arc Township.

The victim, Mykal Anders, was bitten in the head by what Montgomery County Animal Control called a three-year-old Great Dane/lab mix at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3. The boy was airlifted to the hospital for surgery Tuesday evening and was in stable condition Wednesday morning.

According to Montgomery County Animal Control Warden Nancy Richardson, the dog was tied up in the kitchen at the Loren and Terry Roach residence, where the victim was visiting, when the bite occurred.
