The owner of the Dachshund left home on Friday to visit relatives and left a front gate open, according to a police report. The Dachshund apparently left its own property and made its way into the kennel next door.
Police officers and Pima County Animal Control officers responded about 6 p.m. to the home on La Canada and said they found two puncture wounds in the deceased animal and its abdomen ripped open.
The Dachshund’s owners assumed someone deliberately threw it in with the larger dogs, who were estimated at between 50 and 70 pounds each, the report stated.
However, officers said “there was a strong possibility” that the Dachshund left its yard on its own. The kennel is fenced with 4-by-4-inch squares, which officers said were large enough for a small animal to enter, and was equipped with an electric wire 18 to 24 inches off the ground, high enough for a small dog to walk underneath.
No, no, no. I'll tell you what happened. The Doxie got close, was barking at the larger dogs in the kennel. There was a gap and the pit bulls were at the gap and the Doxie darted too close and was grabbed and the pit bulls pulled it under the fence and mauled it to death.
There are media stories where this has happened before. There are media stories where this has happened with children. There are media stories where this happens with wild animals at zoos or with people who own zoo animals (exotic animals).

The larger dogs had “extensive injuries” apparently suffered in the fray and were taken to a veterinary emergency room for treatment.
The pit bulls were so engrossed in disemboweling the little dogs and killing it that they began attacking each other. Two pit bulls mauling each other are going to create "extensive injuries".
Animal Control had better keep an eye on this house. If these dogs ever got out of this kennel, they will kill someone.
The owner of the two dogs was cited for several vaccination and registry violations.
