Dog recovering after vicious attack

FLORIDA -- A South Florida dog is recovering after being attacked by another dog.

A boxer named Edwin is recovering at a local animal hospital Monday night after being attacked by a pit bull.

Residents in the neighborhood struggled to break the dogs apart. Witnesses said, after the dogs began to fight again, the man walking the boxer pulled out a gun and shot the pit bull dead.

"I thought he used a lot of restraint because he didn't shoot him right away. This was going on for five minutes, and his dog was all ripped up and bloody, ear was all mangled up," said witness Rick Karp.

The incident happened along the 9000 block of Northwest 47th Drive in Coral Springs.

Police cited the pit bull's owner for not having the dog on a leash. The owner of the boxer has a concealed weapons permit and will not be cited.
