TEXAS -- The Jasper County Sheriff's Department is investigating a case of a toddler being attacked by a pit bull dog. The incident occurred shortly after 11:00 on Monday morning at the Rachel Ann Sheard residence, located at 15479 Farm to Market Road 1004, just west of Buna.
According to a report filed by Deputy Jason McClelland, he and other deputies responded to the residence, and arrived to find the 2-year-old boy covered with blood. McClelland said the child had wounds to his head, eye, jaw, and chin.
McClelland's report said the dog was chained in the front yard, and the mother of the child, Stacy Renee Strawther, told deputies that she heard her son screaming and looked out to front yard and saw the 80 pound dog on top of the boy.
Buna First Responders arrived on the scene and began administering emergency first aid to the child. However, the nearest ambulance was a half-hour away in Silsbee. The child's mother opted to place the toddler in her car and she rushed him to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. There is no word on his condition.
Meanwhile, the owner of the dog voluntarily quarantined it in a Jasper veterinary hospital.
There is no word on charges being filed, and the case remains under investigation.
