Infant hospitalized after pit bull attack

COLORADO -- A nine-month-old is recovering at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs after being bit by a pit bull.

Emergency officials were called to a home in Yoder Sunday afternoon to help the child. The infant was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

The Tri-Lakes Fire Protection District said the dog bit the girl in the face causing severe injuries. Sgt. Mike Schaller with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said her injuries are not life-threatening.

Schaller said the pit bull belongs to the baby's grandfather. He was served a summons for ownership of a dangerous dog.

The dog was impounded at the Humane Society. It has not been said if it will be put down.
