CALIFORNIA -- Three pit bulls are in quarantine at the San Diego County Animal Shelter after one of the dogs bit a seven year-old and a San Diego police officer in the South East San Diego community of Shelltown, Sunday.
Neighbors told police that a homeless man and a woman broke into this vacant home along Epsilon Street to stay overnight.
The woman had three pit bulls with her, two adult dogs and a puppy.
Police say one of the dogs broke through a fence and bit a 7 year-old boy in the hand. The pit bull also bit a police officer in the hand.
Iris Valencia, was with her family working on a rental property they own across the street, when she heard the commotion. She and her father ran over to see what was happening.
"I think the officer got the worst of it," said Valencia, "because he was trying to get the dogs away from the kids so I think he got a better bite on his hand."
None of the injuries were serious.
According to Animal Services, the dog bit someone else three months ago.
The owner of the dog would not relinquish the pit bulls, which means for now, they will not be euthanized.
The owner of the dog was arrested on other charges. She could also face additional charges, including leash law violations, and failing to protect others from her dog.
