ILLINOIS -- Residents in a Cary neighborhood are outraged after [an attck by] two dogs left a border collie dead.
Police responded to the 300 block of High Road at 2:27 p.m. Tuesday for a "dogfigh"t that happened earlier in the day. An unidentified resident reported that two dogs encountered a border collie on his property in the Brigadoon subdivision.
Police Sgt. Jim Fillmore said one of two mastiff dogs attacked the border collie. “After [the dog] went to the veterinarian, it succumbed to its injuries,” he said.
Arianne Clarke, 27, who lives on High Road and owns the mastiffs, was cited for a dog at large, Fillmore said. Violation of the ordinance carries a fine from $75 to $500, he said.
One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Northwest Herald that Cary residents still are “sensitive” after a 2005 pit bull attack that injured six people and sent two children to the hospital, one in critical condition.
Tuesday’s incident was referred to McHenry County Animal Control to determine what will happen to the dog that attacked. A representative from the agency was unavailable for comment Wednesday night.
There were no reports of other incidents involving the dogs, Fillmore said.
