Eighty-four-year-old Joan Britton was attacked by what she believes to have been a Staffordshire bull terrier, as she walked her two Dachshunds through Baysgarth Park, in Barton, with her husband John.
Mrs Britton had been trying to protect her pets when the attack happened just a short walk from their home.
She claimed the person who was walking two dogs had fled after the attack and that the incident – which happened at around 3pm on Wednesday, March 7 – was "like a nightmare".
Her injuries were so severe that she had to spend five days at Castle Hill Hospital, in Hull, and have an operation on her right wrist to try to stop an infection sustained in the attack from spreading.
Now she must make regular visits to the hospital so that doctors can monitor the infection.
Mrs Britton, of Barton, said: "We were walking through the park with our two dogs, Tilly and Maud, quite happily and then all of a sudden two dogs came out of nowhere.
"It was just like a pack of wolves, the way they came on to us.
"I was absolutely terrified. One of the dogs nearly bit my wrist off."
She said the attack only stopped when the person who was with the dogs came over and pulled them away.
Her husband John, 76, claimed: "The person who was with the dogs came towards us, threw their shopping bags down and just ran off.
"It was frightening to have two dogs come at you like that.
"If it had been a small child, I think this could have been fatal."
Mrs Britton said the pain from the injury had been hard to deal with.
"The dog grabbed so hard on my wrist," she said. "I can't explain the pain – it was so terrible.
"The doctors cut my wrist open and flushed everything out to try to remove the infection. My wrist is still very red and swollen.
"After the attack, I was so traumatised. I was shocked and didn't see my husband until later on.
"One of my dogs was chased out of the park towards Brigg Road. We didn't get her back until 3.30am the next day.
"I was worried about my husband, too, as he has a bad heart and I thought the trauma and chasing after the dog could cause him to have a heart attack."
A spokeswoman for Humberside Police confirmed the force had been called in connection with an incident, adding: "We would like to remind people of the importance of keeping dogs on leads."
