FLORIDA -- A pit bull was listed in critical condition and its owner was facing charges after a deputy shot the dog on Monday, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called to America's Best Inn on the 4200 block of North Federal Highway in Pompano Beach around 3 p.m. Guest Cristiane Ferrreito Texeira, 43, had not paid her bill and had barricaded herself in her hotel room with two dogs, sheriff's spokeswoman Dani Moschella said.
"When deputies got in [the hotel room] a pit bull lunged at a deputy and it almost made it to his neck," Moschella said.
The dog was shot, critically wounded and taken to Coral Springs Animal Hospital. The second dog, a daschund, was taken to Pompano Beach Animal Control, she said.
Texiera was charged with defrauding an innkeeper and obstruction, Moschella said.
