Pit bull Attack in Asheville

NORTH CAROLINA -- For a second day in a row a pit bull is to blame for going on the attack.  This attack happened in Asheville's Montford Community. Authorities say a woman was walking her dogs on Grey Street around 7:00 p.m. when the dog came at her.

It's believed she was trying to prevent a dog fight when the pit bull ran out of it's yard, into the street and started biting the woman.  Police she suffered serious injuries to her right calf and foot.  The wounds were so deep that she needed stitches and as a precaution doctors have put her on antibiotics.  When animal control arrived on scene the dog's owner immediately surrendered it to the Humane Society.

The pit bull is being placed on a state mandated 10 day quarantine. It will be monitored for the rabies virus.  After that 10 days the animal will become property of the Buncombe County animal shelter.  It will then be up to officials there about what happens to the dog.

At this time the pit bulls owner is not facing any criminal charges. He has received written warnings for the bite itself, letting the dog run free, not having a current dog license and not having rabies tags on the animal.
