ARKANSAS -- A 3-year boy is recovering from severe trauma and bite wounds around his face and head after the family's pit bull attacked him around 9 a.m. Thursday.
The Baxter County Sheriff's Department says the hospital in Mountain Home contacted it to report a child had been brought to the Emergency Room by private vehicle.
Investigators say the boy's mother, Amber Moody, told them her son, Ryland Moody, was attacked and bitten by the family's 9-month-old pit bull terrier in their front yard. She said she and a friend took the child to the hospital.
The department's preliminary investigation shows Moody adopted the dog from the Humane Society last March 7. Although the Humane Society has a policy of not adopting pit bull terriers to families with young children, the adoption paperwork that was filled out and signed by Moody indicated she put 'none' in the section of the form asking about children.
Ryland Moody was airlifted to a hospital in Little Rock, where he was rushed into surgery. The hospital said the boy is in critical condition.
The investigation is continuing.
