Waterbury pit bull owners owe $242 in fines each after dogs mauled 88-year-old woman

CONNECTICUT -- Waterbury police have issued infractions to the owners of two pit bulls that mauled an 88-year-old city woman in her driveway two weeks ago.

Police had been considering criminal charges against 24-year-old Jose Colon and 26-year-old Robert Harrison, but instead cited them for allowing dogs to roam, failing to license the dogs and causing a nuisance. Both men owe $242 under the infractions.

The dogs attacked Lena Poidomani on March 20 outside her Wilkenda Avenue home. She spent several days in Waterbury hospital being treated for bites to her arms and legs, but is back home now.

Police shot both dogs to death after the attack. Authorities say the pit bulls escaped an enclosure in the back yard of a home next to Poidomani’s house that Colon was renting.
