Brockton pit bull quarantined after biting 8-year-old

MASSACHUSETTS -- A pit bull that bit an 8-year-old boy on Sunday is being quarantined at its owner’s home on Grafton Street, a city animal control officer said Monday.

Brockton Animal Control Officer Tom DeChillis said the pit bull is being quarantined for 10 days to see if the animal had been exposed to rabies.

“It’s still under investigation,” DeChillis said.

The incident occurred about 12:50 p.m. Sunday. The boy, who was not identified, suffered a dog bite to the left buttock area, police said. An ambulance took the boy to Good Samaritan Medical Center.

His condition was not known Monday.

The boy “plays with the dog all the time,” Sgt. Richard Linehan said, recounting witness statements to police.

The dog was tied to a 10-foot-long metal chain, attached to a pole at the rear of a Grafton Street house, when the incident occurred, police said. The dog is owned by the boy’s neighbor, police said.
