CALIFORNIA -- Long Beach police shot and killed a dog Saturday after it attacked a woman walking her dogs in the neighborhood.
The officer-involved shooting was reported at 6:02 p.m. near the 200 block of East Harcourt Street, Sgt. David Marander of the Long Beach Police Department said.
“A female adult was out walking her dog when two pit bulls attacked her and her dog,” Marander said. “Police were called and we responded. Bystanders tried to help the female.”
Marander said officers followed one of the dogs, trying to subdue it with a Taser “several times with no effect” before the officer-involved shooting happened.
“The dog passed away,” Marander said. “The other dog was taken into the custody of animal control.”
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries, Marander said.
