MICHIGAN -- A resident being circled by three pit bulls used his weed trimmer to keep them at bay, although he didn’t come out of the ordeal unscathed.
The incident, which occurred on the morning of May 5 in the 300 block of Fourth Street, involved a 62-year-old resident and was witnessed by a Wyandotte Municipal Services employee.
The resident told police he was doing lawn work when three pit bulls ran after him, chased him around his yard and started circling him aggressively. He said the only way he could keep them from getting bitten was to turn his weed trimmer in their direction. He backed away into his fenced yard to keep from being attacked. During the incident the man fell and injured his elbow, which was still bleeding when an officer took his report.
The dogs were eventually taken back to their home by the owner’s young daughter.
Police contacted the owner, a 27-year-old woman who lives in the same block. She told police that one of her dogs is aggressive at times, but the other two are not.
The officer said he had recently issued the woman two tickets for allowing the aggressive pit bull to chase people in the neighborhood. The officer described this as an ongoing problem.
The officer and owner decided to take the aggressive dog to the city’s animal shelter to avoid more incidents.
The woman was issued two additional tickets: for vicious animal and dog at large.
