ILLINOIS -- Police used a Taser to subdue a pit bull, which later died, after it attacked a woman last week in west suburban Roselle.
Roselle police officers responded about 9 p.m. on May 8 to a home the 500 block of Rodenburg Road for report of a woman who had been bit by a dog, according to a release. Police knew of the dog from a previous bite report.
The American Staffordshire terrier had severely bitten a 55-year-old woman in the left leg inside the home, the release said. She was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village where she underwent emergency surgery.
The woman told police her husband was still inside the home with the dog, the release said. Officers found the man in the kitchen, holding the dog at bay with a broom and a stick.
Police were unable to capture the dog with a catchpole, so the animal was Tasered and then removed from the home, the release said. The dog was taken to an animal hospital, where it later died.
